Hahaha okay, I bit. "Demos" up for
Anti-deprannant Annie and
She Dreams. You'll need a Real Audio player of 5 or higher. If there are letters or words instead of a number, then you're okay. These songs are crap. They're working versions. I need to really buckle down and sing them properly, but at least I have my "rough sketch." The vocals really do suck. Badly. And "Annie" got overmixed.
I thought I'd also start talking about music I like, as long as I'm making fun of so much. I like Rasputina, for putting some art into music. I heard them do a Manson song last night, and it does take pretty big ones to do a song like that with cellos. On that note, I like Marilyn Manson. He's probably the #1 target of the "satire" on this coming album, but that's only because I firmly believe that living through bad things can lead to growth and happiness. Antichrist Superstar may have been the most brilliant rock album of the 90s, mostly because no one really tried to compete. Wearing stupid glasses and retelling the same stories only made the indie artist look like washed out versions of the indie artists who did the exact same thing ten years before them.
I think Andrew WK has a great philosophy, and it pleases me to no end that someone with his philosophy can find success. I like old They Might Be Giants. I've been a fan since the Pink Album came out, and if not for them then I'd never believe that a drum machine could work in the way I use it. Sadly, I haven't liked much of them since Appollo 18 - as much as I loved Appollo 18. I even bought it twice.
Another album I bought twice was Faith No More's "Angel Dust." This album is an obvious influence on the new angst-metal bands, but the level of storytelling in Angel Dust sadly hasn't been matched by any of them. I'll probably buy the new Reel Big Fish album soon. I like certain forms of trance and happy hardcore music, even though I hate the present rave culture. Austin TX doesn't go a week without the news reporting yet another loser who overdosed on a supposedly safe rave drug. I love glitterpunk music. Thee Trash Brats, Hollywood Teasze, the Lanternjack. These groups are as big of an influence on me as anyone else. They too, tell great stories. So does Johnny Cash, for that matter.
And I really enjoy Frank Zappa. Here's a guy who fused it all. High quality jazz with the filthiest rock and amazing stories. And he did it sober. If not for Zappa, I wouldn't be recording this album. If Zappa hadn't pulled together such a great group of people under the demand that they remain sober, I would have given up on music. I don't disapprove of drugs, but I don't want them in my life. Enough people have done enough to hurt me without me helping them out, and I simply don't have that much mind left to lose.
So, it's time for me to make a meat sandwhich and get to work. I do like meat, too.
